This is the blog of our Early Childhood students at Wilkes Community College, Educational Technology class, Summer 08. It is a hybrid course meaning students do most of their work online, meeting only three times for an 8 weeks course. Most of us don't even know what a blog is or why we would use it. So here goes an experiment!

Audio learning is good but not for me. The person in the video seems to be unfocused (Bounce here and there). I would think this is a person that might need audio to help learn. I have seen babies that need sound to calm down. With words or song they listen and focus on the person doing the action
This is why I want you to become familiar with different learning styles so that if you had someone who was an auditory learner, you would be able to recognize her learning style and be able to teach to it. Read about Howard Gardner's 8 Multiple Intelligences and it talks about how everyone is smart in a different way. I suspect this girl is very creative, if you read her profile you will see how she likes theater and other hands on activities.
I think this girl has a unique way of learning. You need to use whatever works for you, and everyone has their own way(s) of learning. It's great that she found a way of learning that seems to work for her. Of course, as I've mentioned in my response to our question, I use different ways of learning; watching and doing; taking notes, etc.
I'm not sure where I'm suppose to go to respond to the fiveawesomeguys videos, so I will respond here. (a Ellen, I sent you an email about 1 video I started watching until bad language came up, but I think it was an old one.) I watched a video "A Pokemon Free Video". He talked about how he learns best. I think it's really great that someone can learn something by teaching it to themselves. Just keep practicing and working with it until you are satisfied with your results. An example is learning to play the guitar. You have a special gift if you can teach yourself something on your own like that. I'm not that talented or gifted. (I think this video was for Tuesday, June 10, 2008).
I just watched part of today's video. He said he learns by example. He reads about something he's interested in and learns more about it that way. I guess he is sort of teaching himself by doing this. (He also talked about using bad language and I turned him off when he used the "F" word.)
From experience with 2 children with very different learning styles. I think that it is very important for each person to know what their learning style is. I also think it is extremly important for teachers to help children know what their learning style is. Like the girl in the video, she learns by listening and found many ways to make learning successful.
Oh, By the way! I am trying to earn how to do this by reading and this is not working out to well for me. I guess I need more visual.
All my children learn differently and the children at the center are none alike in their learning. I am a hands on and see it done person (so is my daughter). I see visual learners, hands on learners, those who like audio. The more I see the more I learn that people are so different and so many ways of learning not just a few.
